A large number of schools from across the region descended on Rydal Penrhos for a special event last week.
The school hosted its inaugural Prep and Primary Schools’ Art Exhibition and Prizegiving on Friday, April 20, which is a new initiative put on by Rydal Penrhos with a view to improving community relations with other educational establishments in North Wales and the North West.
Entrants were tasked with producing a drawing or painting on the theme of Peace, which resulted in some stunning work that was featured in the Memorial Hall over a two-day period.
Each submission was judged by Rydal Penrhos’ highly knowledgeable Head of Art Mark Sherrington and teacher Suzy Morris, who had the unenviable task of selecting a series of winning entries from the fantastic designs.
The overall winner from the Year 5 and 6 category was Ella Cecil from Packwood Haugh School, while the very talented Prep School pupil Shane Ayeni was crowned winner of the Year 3 and 4 category.
There were also individual awards presented in categories of each school that participated in the competition, while a host of aspiring young artists also received Highly Commended certificates as a result of their contribution to the competition.
Mr Sherrington, said: “The standard of the competition was incredibly high, with each entrant full grasping the theme and what it meant from their perspective.
“It was an absolute pleasure to judge the competition and I would like to thank everyone that took part and Karen Smith for organising the event, which will hopefully be even bigger next year.”
