Positive response to first Parents' Pastoral Forum on Mental Health & Pupil Wellbeing

Promoting wellbeing and mental health were the topics discussed at a special parent event at Rydal Penrhos.

As part of a new initiative at the school, the first Parentsโ€™ Pastoral Forum took on Tuesday, January 30 at the Sixth Form Ferguson Centre.

Assistant Head of Middle School Paul Sanders spoke on the subject of Mental Health at the forum, which followed on from his eye-opening Sixth Form lecture on the same topic.

A large number of staff and parents attended the forum, and the event received a hugely positive response on social media.

Mental Health and pupil wellbeing have been hitting the headlines in recent days as the subject continues to gain increased exposure due to its ongoing importance.

Headmaster Simon Smith, said: โ€œI can think of no issue which is currently more important. As clinical psychologist and broadcaster Professor Tanya Byron said at a Boarding Schools Conference for Headteachers, which I attended last May, "it's not an exaggeration to say there's a mental health crisis in children and young people".

โ€œThis is also a very significant national issue and I am pleased and reassured that we, as staff, are able to so ably support our pupils.โ€

There will be another similar forum following the half-term break, which will centre around preparing for public examinations on March 13.
