Payne clinch 2019 Yeung Bowl House Cup

Rydal Penrhos’ four houses found out their fate as the overall competition victor was announced.

The school announced the winner of the coveted Yeung Bowl House Cup during its annual Speech Day event on Saturday, May 25, which saw Payne House secure the crown after an outstanding academic year across all year groups.

House captains Ewan Luke and Louise Weis received the cup from special guest speaker and former pupil Dr Victoria Galbraith to a generous round of applause from the audience.

Each pupil at Rydal Penrhos contributes to the overall house point totals throughout the course of the year, which can be won for academic achievement or at the various co-curricular inter-house competitions in areas such as music, drama and boarding.

Payne’s triumph was aided considerably by their performance at the recent Sports Day event, which saw them come away with the overall title thanks to some superb individual and team contributions.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “It has been another incredible academic year of House competitions and Payne are very worthy winners considering how well they have done on a consistent basis.

“You could see just how much it meant to every member of the house when they were announced as this year’s winners, which is something that has been one of the cornerstones of the incredible success of our pupils here at Rydal Penrhos.”
