Parent View: Steve Griffiths

Ahead of our Open Morning events in April, we will be catching up with some Prep and Senior School parents to give their views on what made them choose Rydal Penrhos for their child's education, and how it has influenced them since their enrollment.

The first feature is Steve Griffiths, father of Year 4 pupil Lucy Ranales-Griffiths and Business Development Director at Supertemps Ltd.

Why did you choose Rydal Penrhos for your child?

It was important to find a school that was renowned for building confidence in young people as well as giving them future networks and an element of independence.

As parents, we also wanted our child to excel in not only curricular activity but to have the opportunity to try different sports that were not available at most other schools.

What made Rydal Penrhos stand out during the selection process?

As parents, we are from North Wales and proud of our local roots – we wanted our school to make the most of all the facilities and natural resources that we have in the region.

Rydal Penrhos stood out for its location being close to the sea and making use of all the local water sports facilities as well as having its own exceptional sporting facilities.

Being so close to the Snowdonia National Park and making use of the wonderful locations on our doorstep.

Have you been impressed with the academic and co-curricular programmes on offer?

Yes, the choice of programmes and sporting activity is fundamental to our choice of school. Our daughter is challenged at all levels and for an eight-year-old has achieved far more than we ever did at this stage.

Confidence and individuality are very apparent at such a young age.

How has your child benefitted from the diverse opportunities offered at the school?

The opportunity in such a wide range of sports is superb – having the options of sailing, skiing, all the other sports has really helped our daughter take responsibility, become more independent and confident as well as improvements in hand-eye coordination is excellent.

She has also benefitted from being able to make friends outside of the school with other extra-curricular activities such as tennis.

What skills has your child gained since joining Rydal Penrhos?

Our daughter has gained various skills such as the ability to critically think and problem-solve.

She has a real sense of curiosity and asks questions about a wide range of subjects. She is allowed to use her imagination across a wide range of subjects.

She has learned to become adaptable to situations and uses her initiative to overcome problems, and also has effective oral and written communication and applies herself in a confident manner.

How impressed have you been with staff support?

The teaching and staff support has been excellent – for a child wanting to go to school and enjoy their time is something we as parents cherish.

Would you recommend Rydal Penrhos to others?

Without hesitation – I wish I could turn the clock back for myself!

Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 27 and Saturday 28 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com.
