A host of schools from across the region will descend on Rydal Penrhos this week for the regional round of a prestigious competition.
The school will host the United Kingdom Maths Trust’s Junior Team Challenge on Thursday, March 14, which will bel held at the newly refurbished Sixth Form Ferguson Centre.
Each team will go through a series of number-crunching activities throughout the day, with a relay round in the final stages of the competition also set to play a huge contributing factor in the overall victor.
The Rydal Penrhos quartet of Henry Battersby, Ester Ball-Iversen, Lily Davies and Zac Roberts will be aiming to continue the school’s rich history of success in the competition, with 11 other teams also scheduled to take part.
Hopefuls from Moreton Hall School, Ruthin School, St Gerard’s School and The Maelor School have confirmed their attendance, with Ysgol Aberconwy, Ysgol Caergybi, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, Ysgol Friars, Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni and Ysgol John Bright also taking part.
Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the UKMT Junior Team Challenge once again, which is a fantastic showcase of the academic prowess at various education establishments across North Wales and the North West.
“Our team has been working very hard under the expert leadership of staff at our Maths department, which will hopefully carry on our fine tradition of achievement in the competition.”
