Music department launches new songwriting and recording initiative

Talented musicians at Rydal Penrhos are improving their song-writing skills thanks to a new initiative.

Director of Music Pete Williams has been working with a select group on both songwriting and recording skills using the impressive high-tech equipment that is situated within the department.

Mr Williams is an experienced songwriter who is composing some of the songs himself, specifically tailored to a certain pupil in accordance with their singing style.

The first release features the vocal prowess of Urdd National Eisteddfod winner Tegid Goodman-Jones and Emma Hourihane entitled Lonely Girl, and many more songs are currently in the process of being finalised and set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

This is the latest in a long line of exciting initiatives put on by the department, which has gone from strength-to-strength under the leadership of Mr Williams, who is a key contributor to all areas of Rydal Penrhos life.

Mr Williams, said: “We have started to record songs specifically written for pupils. Some I write myself, others I write with pupils.

“The idea is to teach and coach them in writing songs (a precursor to composition generally) and ultimately, to show their talent.

“The new initiative has received an incredibly strong response from each pupil taking part, and hopefully these new experiences will stand them in good stead as they look to progress their overall music skills across all areas in the coming months and years.”
