A staff member at Rydal Penrhos has been helping a national rugby side prepare for a high-profile tournament later this month.
Joe Trickey, who will become the school’s new Head of Athletic Development from September, was recently appointed to the England Touch Rugby Association’s backroom staff ahead of their tilt at the European Championships, which takes place from Wednesday, July 18 until Saturday 21 at the Highfields Sports Complex in Nottingham.
He has been working as a strength and conditioning coach with the squad over the last few months to ensure they are fully prepared for is expected to be a hotly contested tournament featuring the finest talent on the continent.
Mr Trickey, said: “I will be using this as an opportunity to learn from fellow coaches and physiotherapists to bring back new ideas that I can implement at Rydal Penrhos next year.”
The staff member has spent the last academic year as a strength and conditioning intern and has enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success in developing aspiring athletes as part of the thriving programme.
He will be remaining with the Association in the same capacity to ready the squad for the World Championships in Malaysia next year.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, added: “Joe has greatly assisted the England Touch Rugby side during a strenuous preparation process, and hopefully this will result in a strong showing for the group at the European Championships.
“We are very privileged to have him here at Rydal Penrhos, and everyone is excited to see what he has in store when he takes over as our Head of Athletic Development following the summer break.”
