Meet the Captains: Ewan & Louise (Payne)

As part of an ongoing series of features throughout the summer at Rydal Penrhos, we take a look at the newly appointed Sixth Form leadership positions and the pupils that have secured them in ‘Meet the Captains’.

The latest instalment features the Payne team of Ewan Luke and Louise Weis:

Payne House are going to be a force to be reckoned with during the next academic year thanks to the appointment of new captains Ewan and Louise.

Ewan is one of the crowning jewels in Rydal Penrhos’ thriving sailing programme, with the pupil achieving a wealth of regional, national and international success on a consistent basis alongside partner Zac Blomeley.

He is part of the GBR Youth set-up and has compete at high-profile events across the globe, and has also contributed significantly to the school’s senior rugby squad on their landmark tour of Japan.

In addition to his sporting efforts, Ewan has served as a fantastic mentor to younger members of the Rydal Penrhos community as part of the school’s Peer Mentor programme, and has been on hand to lend his support at various events, volunteering his own time despite having an extremely busy schedule.

He is also a very strong academic with a great passion for engineering, and he received praise for his application during two work experience placements at Siemens Healthineers and ESB at Moneypoint Generating Station in Ireland.

Louise has wasted no time in becoming a much-valued member of the Sixth Form, and is thriving in a wide range of different areas thanks to the opportunities afforded to her and each pupil living and learning at Rydal Penrhos.

Her determination and desire to succeed was especially evident in the spring, which saw Louise part of the team that complete the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge after a sensational display of teamwork and

She also achieved regional swimming accolades after qualifying for the Urdd National Gala, and Louise also came through her PADI Open Water Diving assessment with flying colours prior to the summer break.

The 18-year-old has also played a starring role in various concerts throughout the year, in addition to a wealth of House competitions which also enhanced her Prefect application claims considerably.
