Medieval Food explored as part of Academic Scholar session

A group of Academic Scholars at Rydal Penrhos took a trip back in time as part of their latest session.

History teacher Morgan Burgess led the final session before the half term break, which centred on the topic of medieval food.

They began by looking at the different kitchen utensils used to both cook and eat during that period and how they differ from the way we cook and eat in today’s modern society.

This was followed by examining the most common food and drink consumed by those that lived during the era, and Miss Burgess brought in some items for the group to sample.

The session concluded another successful term for the initiative, which saw each scholar receive additional learning opportunities on a weekly basis at various departments throughout Rydal Penrhos.

Following the initial success of the scheme, it will now continue during the final term of the academic year and beyond.

English and Drama teacher Fiona Earle, said: “Our Academic Scholar sessions have been met with a hugely positive response, and this is something we plan to continue long into the future.

“Our staff do an exceptional job of making the sessions as fun as possible, while also giving each pupil involved an improved knowledge on things that may not necessarily be on the current curriculum.”
