Les Mis Cast Focus: Jenny (Fantine)

  • Name: Jenny Blackman
  • Year group: Year 13
  • Role: Fantine

A well-rounded individual who comes to life on stage, Jenny will be taking on the prominent role of Fantine during the upcoming Dramatic Society production of Les Misérables.

The Upper Sixth Former is the embodiment of everything that comes with a Rydal Penrhos education, with Jenny thriving across her A-level subjects, leading by example in her role as Prefect and contributing significantly to the vast array of co-curricular options available at the school, particularly in the area of Performing Arts.

Jenny is an accomplished presence on stage thanks to the expert guidance and support she has received from Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff, and this came to the fore during the sensationally powerful Dramatic Society production of To Kill a Mockingbird, which drew widespread plaudits.

Another notable highlight of her time at the school is her performance as Duffy in the Annie the Musical showcase in 2017, and Jenny also lent her considerable talents to the hugely successful RPS Showstoppers event that celebrated all things related to Musical Theatre.

Jenny has emerged as an influential member of the Sixth Form community after initially enrolling as a Year 7 pupil in 2012, and she has spent considerable time supporting younger pupils at the school in her role as Peer Mentor.

Fantine is a young orphaned grisette in Paris who becomes pregnant by a rich student.

After he abandons her, she is forced to look after their child, Cosette, on her own.

Originally a pretty and naïve girl, Fantine is eventually forced by circumstances to become a prostitute, selling her hair and front teeth, losing her beauty and health.

The money she earns is sent to support her daughter.

Fantine became an archetype of self-abnegation and devoted motherhood. She has been portrayed by many actresses in stage and screen versions of the story and has been depicted in works of art.
