- Name: Amy Yue
- Year group: Year 13
- Role: Cosette (2 performances)
An enthusiastic and ambitious member of the Rydal Penrhos community, Amy will be taking on the featured role of Cosette in the upcoming Dramatic Society production of Les Misérables.
The Chinese boarding pupil has become a hugely influential member of the Sixth Form thanks to her polite demeanour and ability to shine on stage, which was further highlighted by a national television appearance in her native country as part of their Chinese New Year celebrations.
Amy was chosen to sing with the stars as part of the Spring Gala Festival, which was broadcast throughout China and the Middle East on the Liao Ning network.
This is the latest in a series of impressive accolades for the pupil, who joined Rydal Penrhos as a Year 10 pupil in 2016 and has thrived under the guidance and support of dedicated staff at the school.
She has contributed significantly to the various community and school concerts put on by Director of Music Pete Williams and his team throughout the academic year, in addition to appearing on stage during the recent RPS Showstoppers extravaganza that attracted more than 1,000 audience members over a three-night period last spring.
Her academic strength is another notable and worthy focus of her life at Rydal Penrhos, with Amy achieving a considerable amount of success in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust’s individual and team challenges.
Cosette is the orphaned child of an unmarried mother deserted by her father, and is mistakenly identified as Ursule, Lark, or Mademoiselle Lanoire.
She is the daughter of Fantine, who leaves her to be looked after by the Thénardiers, who exploit and victimise her.
Rescued by Jean Valjean, who raises Cosette as if she were his own, she grows up in a convent school.
She falls in love with Marius Pontmercy, a young lawyer. Valjean's struggle to protect her while disguising his past drives much of the plot until he recognizes "that this child had a right to know life before renouncing it" — and must yield to her romantic attachment to Marius.
