Leavers' Focus: James M

As part of a special series of summer features, we turn our attention to our Year 6 pupils as we reflect on their accomplishments and get the perspective of Prep School Head Alison Hind.

The latest instalment of Leavers’ Focus features James Mann:

A polite young man who has grown in confidence, James is another that has made an incredible contribution since arriving at Rydal Penrhos as a Year 4 pupil.

He is a very keen learner who is excelling in a number of different subjects, and he has also contributed significantly to a number of different clubs and co-curricular activities that have enhanced his overall development considerably.

James’ exploits on the water as part of Rydal Penrhos’ thriving sailing programme have seen the pupil achieve a host of regional competition, and his tireless efforts as part of the school’s Eco Committee have drawn a great deal of praise from teacher and Eco leader Julie Woodthorpe.

Another notable highlight during his final year at the Prep School was his performance in the annual Year 6 play Aladdin, where he demonstrated fantastic chemistry with James Gilman and Will Rutherford during a standout effort.

His exceptional efforts saw James scoop the Eco Prize from Rydal Penrhos’ annual Speech Day festivities prior to the summer break.

Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “James is a super boy who enjoys being with friends but equally enjoys a level of independence.

“Despite finding some things hard-going at times, he has shown determination and real staying-power, and has made great progress.

“James has a passion for the great outdoors and has thoroughly enjoyed the Forest School activities. Mrs Woodthopre has been impressed by James’ commitment to the School’s Eco endeavours as he has been thoroughly reliable in his support of this, always willing to help and seeking ways to do so, and this also goes for his helpfulness in other areas such as supporting visitors to the school and spotting and offering to do jobs that need doing.

“He is sensitive, polite and humble, has a beautiful singing voice and revealed his great sense of fun and comedy in his performance in Aladdin.”
