As part of a special series of summer features, we turn our attention to our Year 6 pupils as we reflect on their accomplishments and get the perspective of Prep School Head Alison Hind.
The latest instalment of Leavers’ Focus features Ethan Akroyd:
Ethan is one of those talented individuals that seems to thrive in everything he does, and he is going to be another massive asset to Rydal Penrhos’ senior site when he makes the move from the Prep School in September.
A popular member of the Year 6 group, Ethan’s contribution throughout the academic year in a variety of different fields have brought with it a great deal of success, and this was further reflected in his appointment as Prefect and Pembroke House captain in the autumn.
He is a standout sportsman who played a significant part in the superb campaign for the U11 rugby side, which included a starring performance in the Cooper Cup triumph over Colwyn Bay.
His chemistry on stage with classmate Perry Williams during the Year 6 play Aladdin was a notable highlight of the performance, and his efforts during the Café Dolphin showcase, which included a fantastic piano solo, was further evidence of the progression Ethan has demonstrated under the guidance and support of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff.
Ethan received a Sport Scholar award and the special Carpe Diem Cup for seizing the day at every opportunity from the Prep School’s annual Speech Day event prior to the summer break in recognition for his outstanding contribution throughout all areas of school life.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “Ethan has been with us since nursery and is a real character, genuinely funny but equally sensitive. He loves absolutely everything sporty and is a strong all-rounder. He is a born contester and is certainly ‘in it to win it’. Some may describe him as ‘gung ho’.
“In Llanrug he was the first to put his hand up to volunteer, and the higher and more dangerous the activity, the better.
“Ethan is a true entertainer and story-teller, in the most fun-loving kind of way (if someone has done something, we can guarantee he will have done it even bigger and better.)
“As well as his sport, Ethan has made great academic progress and has impressed with his acting and piano playing in recent weeks - hidden talent unveiled!”
