Leading actress Mossie Smith leads GCSE Drama workshop ahead of exam performance

A leading actress lent her support to GCSE Drama pupils at Rydal Penrhos ahead of their upcoming examination.

Mossie Smith visited the school to work with the Year 11 group on Thursday, March 7, where she spent time with each pupil going over their individual exam pieces and discussed ways of improving before their two-night exam performance this week.

She also looked at the group performance relating to the module, and gave some extremely helpful hints regarding things such as stage presence, telling a story through emotions and the importance of movement.

The actress is best known for her roles in The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling (1997), Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky (2005) and Prime Suspect (1991).

Her efforts on stage have also been significant, working under some of the best directors in the industry during performances such as Nell Gwynn, Snake in the Grass, Howard Katz and Wild Oats.

This is the second time that Mrs Smith has visited Rydal Penrhos in the last 12 months following her special guest appearance at the inaugural Creative and Performing Arts dinner.

English and Drama teacher Fiona Earle, said: “We were absolutely thrilled that Mossie came along to give our GCSE candidates some final instructions before their exam performance, and it was an experience they got a tremendous amount out of and on behalf of them and everyone at Rydal Penrhos I would like to thank her for the insight.”

The GCSE examination performance will be held at the Rick Maple Drama Studio on Thursday, March 13 from 6.30pm.
