An influential sailing squad member at Rydal Penrhos secured a notable award after a fine campaign on the water.
Josh Manning, a Year 11 pupil at the school, was presented with the Ronald Grime Sailing Achievement Cup by special guest speaker Dr Victoria Galbraith at Rydal Penrhos’ annual Speech Day celebration.
The hard-working pupil has progressed his skills under the guidance of chief instructor Max Todd and the rest of the school’s specialist coaching staff, and Josh has also aided younger members of the squad who are looking to follow in his footsteps in the coming years.
It has been another exceptional year of achievement from the Middle School pupil and RYA Cymru Wales squad member, who managed to secure a place on the Team GB squad for the upcoming World Championships in Portugal.
Josh will take part in a special training camp on the continent prior to the competition, which is set to run over a five-day period.
He will be competing in the 420 category alongside sailing partner Lucy Hughes, and the duo secured their place in the squad with impressive performances at the Welsh Youth Nationals, the Inland Nationals and the Start of Season competition.
Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Josh has been a fantastic ambassador for Rydal Penrhos over the academic year and is thoroughly deserving of the Ronald Grime Sailing Achievement Award.
“He has worked incredibly hard and has also inspired others around him, and everyone at the school wishes him the very best of luck with the Team GB squad at the World Championships.”
