A young track and field star enhanced his growing reputation at a regional meet.
Jonathan Osbourne, a Year 7 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, was part of a large contingent from the area that competed at the North Wales Regional Championships on Sunday, May 13.
The 11-year-old managed to turn in a fabulous display in the Long Jump event, beating out a host of talented opponents to come away with the gold medal.
This was followed by equally encouraging displays in both the 100 metre and 200m events, where he achieved seasons best times but fell agonisingly short of the podium after finishing fourth in both competitions.
The Academic and Sports Scholar has been benefitting significantly from Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated strength and conditioning programme, with Jonathan taking part in early morning sessions that have strongly contributed to his overall development.
His progress is also monitored by school staff and discussed with parents at the various Talented Athlete seminars put on by the department throughout the academic year.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Jonathan continues to show incredible progress and is another prime example of what can be achieved when you put your natural ability to good use and fully utilise the opportunities afforded to each pupil here at Rydal Penrhos.
“He has come on leaps and bounds since joining the Senior School last September, and hopefully this will be just the start of great things to come if he continues to work hard and demonstrate a willingness to improve every day.”
