With the support of Governors, staff and parents, the School is transitioning from day/boarding school to a day school. The School is looking for a Financial Controller who can manage that transition, assist in effecting cost reductions and be involved in the success of the project. This will require someone who likes a challenge and who has a good commercial background.
The Financial Controller will play a key role in the senior leadership team, providing accurate insight into all aspects of financial performance and input into the commercial and strategic decision making. Managing a small team and all aspects of the School’s accounting, reporting and control activities to ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively and in line with best practice. Responsibilities will be diverse and include:
- Develop systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective financial management and reporting.
- Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
- Full budgetary control and divisional analysis
- Key role in all capital projects
- Act as the main point of contact to external auditors and ensue the relevant accounting standards are met.
- Recommend and implement changes that will improve financial performance.
- Meet with the School Leadership Team Finance Committee regularly to keep them informed and offer direction.
- Manage and develop a small finance team.
- Ensure the School meets its financial and legal responsibilities.
The ideal candidate with have relevant technical experience coupled with sound commercial awareness and communication skills. The candidate is likely to have a formal accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACMA), but considerable weight will be given to experience and a proven past record. A good working knowledge of accountancy packages and Excel will be required for success in this role. Previous experience within a school is not necessary.
