International Baccalaureate group presented with Speech Day Awards

International Baccalaureate candidates at Rydal Penrhos were acknowledged for their exceptional commitment to their studies with various awards.

The school presented a host of awards to Upper Sixth Form pupils at their annual Speech Day event on Saturday, May 26, where they received their respective accolades from special guest speaker and Old Rydalian Flt Lt Nathan Jones.

Saxon Cowley took home the Biology and Chemistry awards as a result of her fine progression in the subjects, while Chinese boarding pupil Emily Li was the recipient of the Economics, Extended Essay, Mathematics and Physics prizes.

Ukrainian boarder Ivan Shamrai earned the Prize for Progress in English as a Foreign Language, with Benjamin Gibson scooping the English A Language and Literature, French, History and TOK awards.

The prizes for English B and Visual Art were won by Amelia Berthold, and departing Head Girl Olivia Williams was the proud recipient of the Michael S James Cup for Geography and Spanish.

Rounding off the achievements was boarder Lia-Britt Zenker, who secured the German A Literature prize for her outstanding contribution within the specific subject.

Head of Sixth Form Peter Lavery, said: “Our International Baccalaureate group have shown a tremendous application to their academic studies throughout the two-year course, while also contributing significantly to other areas of life here at Rydal Penrhos.

“They are a fantastic group that can be enormously proud of what they have accomplished during their time here, and hopefully they can carry on the school’s fine and rich history of IB result success in the coming weeks.”
