A host of individual success were the catalyst behind Rydal Penrhos’ recent victory at a regional gala.
The school held the event before the half term break, which saw the swimming squad take on competitors from Ysgol Eirias, St David’s College and St Gerard’s School.
It was an extremely strong start from the hosts, with Zac Roberts (50m backstroke), Ruby Merrick (50m backstroke), John Williams (100m backstroke) and Emily Stubbings (100m backstroke) each triumphing in the first four races.
This was swiftly followed by victories for Tom Hughes and Bella Rutherford in their respective 100m backstroke events, while Samiya Garrod notched an impressive victory in the Year 10 and Over category in the same discipline.
Roberts secured his second win of the gala in the 50m breaststroke, and Osca Clark managed to touch the finishing line first in and 100m breaststroke.
There was further success in the form of Josh Peevor (100m breast) and Ariana Milligan (50m butterfly), and the outstanding Roberts made it four-from-four with wins in the 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley.
Williams (50m butterfly), Cameron Show (100m butterfly) and Mia Cole (100m butterfly) kept the sensational run of results going, while Swim Wales youth squad member Zach Speakman got in on the act with wins in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
Year 7 pupil Milliagn came away with a hat-trick of victories after triumphing in the 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley, and the gala was rounded in superb style by Show, Clark and Emily Madden, who were all victorious in their respective 100m freestyle events.
This enabled the Rydal Penrhos to emerge as comfortable winners from the event thanks to their outstanding final total of 132 points.
