A Preparatory School hockey side picked up another notable tournament success from their outstanding campaign.
Rydal Penrhos’ U10 squad travelled to Kirkham Grammar School on Friday, March 29 for their annual competition, which saw them test their skills against a host of sides from Cheshire and the North West.
They began their fixtures with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Queen’s School B thanks to standout performances from Fleur Roberts, Camme de la Mare Norris and Lily Copeland, before falling to a 4-0 loss to King’s School Chester.
A 3-0 defeat to the hosts ensured they were put into the Plate section of the tournament against Stonyhurst College, with a solitary strike from Lily securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory to send the team through to the final.
Charlotte Payne got them off to a flyer with an impressive effort against Queen’s School A, and they held firm in the face of stern pressure thanks in no small part to the defending of Ellie Knight, Lucy Ranales-Griffiths, Eloise Brown and Tilly Trueman to hold on for a 1-0 success.
This ensured Rydal Penrhos were crowned Plate champions at the event, with Lily earning Player of the Tournament honours to round off another successful event for the ever-improving side.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “This was another very encouraging performance from our U10 Hockey side, who are developing their skills and teamwork all the time under the guidance of Head of Girls’ Games Mrs Pyves and our other specialist coaches.
“They are a very enthusiastic bunch who have the potential to do extremely well when they move up to U11 level next year, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled with what they have accomplished so far.”
