High-profile Sailing coach Tom Walker to boost Topper squad

Rydal Penrhos’ sailing department has received another significant boost with the arrival of a high-profile coach to the programme.

Tom Walker will join the school’s dedicated team of coaches for a number of weeks, where he will be aiming to improve those competing in the Topper Class.

He has an impressive series of achievements to his name, having come through the Royal Yachting Association’s Junior and Youth squads, and was also part of the British Youth Sailing team in the Topper, 29er and Hobie 16.

Mr Walker is currently working as head coach for the RYA Topper UK Junior Squad and Lead Multihull Pathway Coach for the Nacra 15 and 17.

He said: “I am excited to be joining the Rydal Penrhos School Sailing Department for the next few weeks, its looks like they have a great setup and I am looking forward to working with the sailors and helping them make progress.”

This is the latest boost for the programme, which recently earned RYA accreditation and achieved a national double at the British Youth National and Welsh National Championships courtesy of the Sixth Form duo of Ewan Luke and Zac Blomeley.

The Topper class continues to thrive at Rydal Penrhos, with Llion Morris securing a national squad selection late last year ahead of their winter training programme.
