A pair of intrepid Preparatory School pupils enjoyed a weekend to remember thanks to their ongoing commitment to water sports.
Harrison McKinnel and Will Rutherford, Year 6 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, began the weekend by participating in the RYA Welsh Youth National Sailing Championships on Saturday, with the duo part of a very large contingent from both Prep and Senior sites.
Despite weather conditions making things difficult due to the lack of wind, both budding sailors gave a very good account of themselves at the Pwllheli showcase, which featured some of the best young talent anywhere in the country.
This followed up with an unforgettable experience at Blue Planet in Ellesmere Port on Sunday, where they were both given the opportunity to swim with sharks at the facility.
Although inexperienced in the discipline of diving, Harrison and William were ~complete naturals” and got to grips quickly with the weights in their respective suits to keep them underwater.
Their unique experience has inspired them into pursuing their Scuba Diving PADI qualification in the coming months, which is one of the many courses run at Rydal Penrhos’ swimming pool throughout the academic year.
Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “Both Harrison and William are extremely enthusiastic in everything they do, so it was no surprise to see them excelling during two challenging activities.
“Gaining this sort of experience at such a young age is brilliant for their overall development outside of the classroom, and it seems to have really inspired them to pursue other elements related to diving in the future.”
