A group of aspiring golfers at Rydal Penrhos got a surprise visit from a fellow pupil and current Welsh youth international during their latest introductory session.
Twenty-four of the school’s Year 7 took a trip to North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno on Wednesday, February 20, where they took part in another two-hour beginner session led by Robin Hughes.
During their time at the picturesque course, they worked on areas of their short game and putting as they gear up for a taste of playing an actual hole thanks to their encouraging developing during the initial stage of their learning.
The contingent got an added bonus for their weekly session this time around, with Year 11 pupil and sports scholar Reuben Bather lending his expertise to his fellow pupils throughout.
Reuben has enjoyed a glittering young career so far which has seen him rise to nine in the European U16 rankings, securing a host of regional and national competition victories and was also part of the Wales squad that achieved a historic victory in the Quadrangular Championships in Holland last year.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “To have so many of our Year 7 trying their hand at something new is something we are always looking to encourage, and to have someone such as Reuben to look up to is another massive plus for those that are looking to follow in his footsteps.
“We are always looking for our older pupils to support, guide and inspire the younger members of the Rydal Penrhos community, and having Reuben at the session did wonders for them as it was someone recognisable that each of them could relate to.”
