Golf: Reuben selected to Wales squad for European Young Masters

A Golf Academy sensation at Rydal Penrhos has received another national squad selection ahead of a high-profile competition next month.

Reuben Bather, a Year 10 pupil at the school, will be part of the Wales squad that will compete at the 2018 European Young Masters tournament, which will take place at Hauger Golf Club in Norway from July 26-28.

The sports scholar will be aiming to continue his phenomenal recent form on the continent after helping guide the Welsh team to a historic victory in the recent Quadrangular Tournament in Holland, which is just one of a host of impressive achievement recorded by the 14-year-olld during what has been a glittering young career to date.

Prior to the tournament, Reuben will get the chance to hone his skills on the picturesque course during two practice days, before testing himself against the best young golfers on the European circuit during the first round of stroke play on Thursday.

Two more stroke play rounds are also scheduled to determine the overall and team winner at the prestigious event, with the Maesdu Golf Club junior captain aiming for yet another high finish to further enhance his growing reputation within the game.

Reuben is the crowning jewel in Rydal Penrhos’ thriving Golf Academy programme and has developed his game considerably under programme leader Ian Richardson, in addition to adding significant yards to his game as part of his work with the school’s dedicated Strength and Conditioning team.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Reuben has achieved a tremendous amount for someone so young, which is a testament to how hard he is working to improve all areas of his game and the work being done by Mr Richardson and his coaching staff.

“Hopefully Reuben can make another massive impact with the Welsh team and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes him the very best of luck at the European Young Masters.”
