A pair of Golf Academy stars performed extremely well at a prestigious national competition recently.
Charley Simpson and Reuben Bather, Year 9 and 11 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, formed the school side that competed at the ISGA National Matchplay Championships, which were held at Royal St George Golf Club, home of the 149th Open Championship.
The duo booked their place at the showcase after securing the ISGA Northern Region Area title alongside Adrian Lewis, who was unable to attend the competition.
Both Charley and Reuben were tested considerably on one of the most challenging courses anywhere in the country, and they managed to secure a 13th placed finish despite being a player down throughout.
Welsh youth international Reuben managed to hit a 72 during the final round to make it into 14th place, and this is the latest in a long line of notable experience for the pair since joining the school’s thriving FGolf Academy provision.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Both Charley and Reuben handled the pressure of performing at such a high-profile competition against older opposition extremely well, and this experience if going to stand them in good stead as they continue to progress their respective games.
“They are two very hard-working individuals who have developed a great rapport when playing together, and Mr Richardson and his team also deserve enormous credit for the way they are helping Reuben and Charley reach their goals.”
