Golf: Award winners announced at annual Sports Dinner

A number of Golf Academy stars have been rewarded for their exceptional displays throughout the academic year at a prominent annual event.

The talented individuals were presented with their end of season accolades at the school’s annual Sports Awards Dinner prior to the half term break, with former pupil and ex-professional Andrew Fenby presenting the prizes in his role as special guest.

Welsh youth international Reuben Bather enjoyed a standout campaign that further enhanced his reputation as one of the brightest young prospects on the continent, securing a wealth of accolades including the ISGA Northern Open Championship and a notable Cardigan Cup triumph with the national U18 set-up.

This resulted in the Maesdu Golf Club Junior Captain securing the Player of the Year distinction from programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson, with Reuben also managing to secure half colours thanks to his exceptional recent progress.

Richard Wolfendale, who recently secured a hole in one on the 17th at North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno, was acknowledged for his incredible development with Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated coaching staff with the Most Improved Player of the Year accolade, with Year 11 pupil Adrian Lewis securing half colours thanks to his impressive overall contribution to the Academy.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “It has been a truly outstanding academic year of success for our Golf Academy, which continues to grow at a rapid rate and has become an integral part of the sporting provision we offer here at Rydal Penrhos.

“I would like to thank Mr Richardson and the rest of his coaching staff for their superb dedication to the programme, and well done to those that picked up well-deserved awards.”
