Three Golf Academy stars at Rydal Penrhos turned in a sensational display at one of the country’s finest courses to reach the next stage of a national event.
Reuben Bather, Charley Simpson and Adrian Lewis formed the school side that travelled to the prestigious Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake for their first round area 4 clash with Birkenhead School.
This was part of the Independent Schools Golf Association’s match play championship, and the trio produced a fabulous effort to progress to the next stage of the competition with a 2-1 victory.
Welsh international Reuben led the way early on with some masterful strokes on the notoriously difficult course to come away with an emphatic 5 and 4 triumph, with Charley also impressing considerably to secure a 4 and 3 win over his opponent.
Adrian narrowly missed out on a clean sweep despite a strong showing in a 3 and 2 defeat, and the Golf Academy starlets will now gear up to take on Leeds Grammar School at North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno following the half term break in the next round.
This is the latest in a long line of successes for Rydal Penrhos’ thriving Golf Academy, which continues to achieve a significant amount thanks to the effort put in by each pupil participating and the coaching staff led by programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Reuben, Adrian and Charley are undoubtedly the leading figures within our Golf Academy programme, and they continue to lead by example with their consistency and their willingness to get better on a daily basis.
“Their remarkable success would not be possible without the tireless efforts of Mr Richardson, who has been the key contributing factor behind the success of the Academy since its inception and long may this continue.”
