A date has been confirmed for Rydal Penrhos’ upcoming final of a prestigious golf competition.
The Golf Academy trio of Adrian Lewis, Charley Simpson and Reuben Bather will take on Bolton School in the Independent Schools’ Golf Association Regional Final, with a place in the National Championships at stake.
The eagerly anticipated encounter will take place at Prestatyn Golf Club on Wednesday, February 6, with a first tee-off time provisionally booked for 11.30am.
All three have been working hard on their game over the winter months as part of the school’s Academy provision, which has gone from strength-to-strength since its inception thanks to the tireless commitment of coaching staff and programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson.
Charley and Reuben have also benefitted enormously from being part of the Golf Wales youth set-up, and they booked their place in the regional finals with a dramatic victory over Leeds Grammar School at the semi-final stage.
Reuben got Rydal Penrhos off to a flyer with a superb 5 and 4 triumph, before a spirited defeat for Adrian brought the scores level heading into the final game.
Things did not look good for Charley, who was two-down heading into the closing stages, but he produced a fantastic finale to emerge victorious 2 and 1 secure success.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This promises to be a fantastic occasion and one that Adrian, Charley and Reuben are really looking forward to.
“They enjoyed a memorable season last summer, all bringing their handicaps down significantly thanks to their outstanding play, and hopefully this is a trend that can continue in the ISGA Regional Final.”
