A girls’ rugby team continued their excellent recent progress with a strong showing at a regional tournament.
The U11 squad from Rydal Penrhos travelled to Llandudno Rugby Club on Tuesday, April 17, where they participated in a round-robin competition featuring other sides in the region.
Played under tag rugby rules, the team have been working extremely hard on improving their cohesion and skills under the leadership of dedicated teachers Jamie McLeod and Jude Pyves, and they got off to the best possible start at the event with victories in their first two contests.
They extended their unbeaten run to four with a pair of hard-fought draws to keep them in contention, but Rydal Penrhos were unable to finish the tournament on a high and suffered their only defeat of the tournament in their final game.
This resulted in the girls’ finishing fourth at the event, which is further proof of just how far they have come in a very short space of time in terms of their overall development.
Mr McLeod, said: “This was another very encouraging event for the team, who are all gaining some fantastic experiences that will stand them in good stead for the future.
“They have not been playing for long, but they have made a seamless transition to the sport and they can be enormously proud of their efforts so far.”
