A pair of Preparatory School artists achieve a notable double from a regional competition.
Freya Berklay and Grace Watkins, Year 5 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, scooped first and second respectively from an Urdd Art showcase, and both received a certificate acknowledging their achievements at the school’s weekly Celebration Assembly on Friday, March 16.
The competition, which was open to Year 5 and 6 pupils across the region, took on the theme of Myths and Legends, with those taking part tasked with picking their favourite Welsh icon and drawing it on either a skateboard or surfboard.
The duo picked the Fairy Realm as their myth of choice, and after working hard under the guidance of Welsh teacher Nerys Wynne-Jones and Art teacher Suzy Morris their fantastic designs managed to secure them a one-two after impressing judges with their creations.
Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “This competition really took the imagination of each pupil taking part, and we are delighted that Freya and Grace have been so successful in their final efforts.
“There is something very special about our Art department at Rydal Penrhos and how it inspires on a daily basis, which is down to the hard work being done by Mrs Morris to promote creativity which is an essential part of a child’s learning.”
