A former rugby academy star at Rydal Penrhos has returned to the RGC ahead of the new Principality Premiership season.
Dion Jones, who was part of the school’s academy which is run in partnership with the Gogs and the Welsh Rugby Union, will re-join the Parc Eirias outfit after a spell in South Wales and was one of a two new arrivals confirmed by the club last weekend.
The 23-year-old is a former Wales U20 international and he will provide a further boost to a back-line that features standout performers such as Afon Bagshaw, Tiaan Loots and Tom Hughes.
Jones will also see some familiar face in the RGC dressing room from his academy links, with Danny Cross, Mei Parry, Efan Jones and Joe Simpson and Josh Leach all still part of the set-up.
After spells with Llanelli and Carmarthen Quins, Jones has returned to his roots and will look to help Mark Jones’ side build on a magnificent debut top flight campaign that saw them reach the playoffs and win the WRU National Cup.
Head Coach Jones, said: “Dion was looking to come back home, so we offered him the rugby option and he was keen to join up.
“Dion offers that cover at fullback, and also gives competition to Afon who was our only fullback last season.”
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, added: “It is great to see so many of our former pupils making their presence felt with both RGC and clubs across the country, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes Dion the very best of luck with his new move.”
