A talented young female footballer helped her regional side to an impressive tournament success.
Zahra Shamsi, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, was part of the Mochdre Lionesses squad that travelled to West Sussex to compete at the Recreation Football Festival.
The 15-year-old, who plays in the side with mother Rahat and Head of Modern Foreign Languages Susan Livingstone, performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament, which saw the Lionesses emerge victorious in their group to achieve the honour.
A total of 23 women’s teams from across the country competed at the competition, which saw more than 200 participate in front of special guests from the English Football Association and European governing body UEFA.
Zahra recently featured in the nationwide #OurSquad initiative, which is aimed at inspiring, empowering and encouraging more women and girls in Wales to get active through sport.
She is also a hugely talented vocalist and has contributed significantly to various concerts and performances put on at Rydal Penrhos throughout what has been another hugely successful academic year at the school.
This is made even more impressive due to the pressures of GCSE coursework deadlines and recent examinations for the pupil, who is now eagerly awaiting her results this summer.
Deputy Head Tim Cashell, said: “Zahra has been a massive part of the growth of Mochdre Lionesses and it was no surprise to see her doing so well in such a highly regarded tournament.
“Although only recently formed, the team has achieved so much in a short space of time and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is very proud to have one of our own involved.”
