A talented Preparatory School footballer has collected yet another medal as part of a progressive youth set-up.
Will Glanville, a Year 4 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, played a significant part in the success of Conwy Borough’s U9 side that competed at a tournament held at Brymbo, which featured more than 20 teams from across North Wales and the North West.
Despite receiving a tough draw, the Tangerines managed to produce a series of fine efforts to emerge as group winners, and they also accumulated enough points to give them a clear route to the final.
The eight-year-old was a key component in Boro’s success, aiding with a number of goals throughout the group stage from the right-wing position.
Unfortunately the young side were unable to take home the overall crown despite a spirited display during the tense final, which saw them on the wrong end of a narrow 2-1 defeat which ensured they finished in second spot after another highly encouraging tournament for the group.
Conwy Borough U9 coach Matt Gilmore, said: “Losing a final is hard but when we dominated 80 per cent of the game it's even harder.
“I am however so happy with what we have achieved in this our first season; quarter final placed in the Liverpool tournament and runners-up in four more prestigious tournaments plus an amazing win in the Towyn Cup earlier in the summer."
