Preparatory School footballers geared up for the upcoming campaign with a strong showing at a recent tournament.
Rydal Penrhos’ U9 side travelled to Pownall Hall last month for a special Football Festival, which saw the squad lock horns with five other sides throughout the North West.
They began the tournament with a last gasp 1-0 success over Ashbridge thanks to a stunning run and finish from Freddie MacLaverty in the closing stages.
Goalkeeper Zack Coverley, who enjoyed a standout competition, pulled off a number of fine saves to ensure a clear sheet.
This was followed by a 0-0 stalemate with St Ambrose, with both sides unable to find the target despite some neat approach play.
Defeats to the Ryleys and the hosts followed, but the Rydal Penrhos youngsters concluded their fixtures in style with a 3-0 triumph over St Mary’s Hall.
Llandudno Academy product Biv Gilmartin opened the scoring with a neat finish following a period of pressure, before livewire Cieran Milligan doubled their advantage soon after.
The talented Gilmartin was on hand to seal the victory when he produced another fine effort after being fed through brilliantly by Theo Roberts.
