Rydal Penrhos’ senior football side put in a good performance on their travels despite having a number of key individuals missing due to other commitments.
The squad travelled to Stonyhurst College on Saturday, February 24 and gave account of themselves before eventually falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat.
The visitors got off to an impressive start and went ahead after just two minutes when Gabriel Dahle latched on to a through ball and produce a composed finish to open the scoring.
This spurred on the away side further and had it not been for some impressive goalkeeping and missed chances then they would have been comfortably ahead at the break.
After the interval saw the home side use the conditions to their advantage and scored three efforts in quick succession to give them a two-goal cushion heading into the closing stages.
A nervy ending to proceedings was ensured when midfielder Matthew Trumper reduced the arrears with a well-taken strike late on, but Rydal Penrhos were unable to claim a share of the spoils thanks to more outstanding goalkeeping from the hosts.
Teacher and coach Mike Farnell, said: “With eight first team members playing 7s rugby it was always going to be tough away at Stonyhurst, but the group performed very well and hopefully they can continue this trend going forward.”
