Rydal Penrhos’ senior football side turned in a good effort to sign off their season at Cheadle Hulme School.
A depleted squad due to illness and injuries produced another impressive performance in difficult conditions, and came away from the contest with a creditable 4-4 draw.
Goalkeeper Phil Novak pulled off a number of impressive saves to keep the away side in the contest throughout, while midfield maestro Matthew Trumper continued his excellent recent form with another well-taken effort.
The visitors proved to be a significant threat on the counter-attack thanks to the sensational pace of Elliot Wilkinson, with the Upper Sixth Form pupil causing havoc in the hosts’ back-line on his way to a brilliant hat-trick.
This enabled Rydal Penrhos to claim a share of the spoils in the final encounter of the campaign, with the squad progressing considerably under the guidance of teacher Mike Farnell despite a series of postponements due to the adverse weather conditions.
Many of the side will be taking the field one more time before departing on the next step of their education journey this summer when they take on Staff for the annual Leavers’ match, which will take place on Friday, May 18 at the Giant Hospitality Stadium, home of JD Welsh Premier League side Llandudno.
Anyone wishing to attend the contest is advised that kick-off is scheduled for 7pm.
