Ferguson Centre renovation campaign officially launched

Rydal Penrhos’ Sixth Form Centre is set to benefit from an ongoing fundraising initiative run by the school.

Ambitious plans have been made to transform the Ferguson Centre into a “bright, creative and inspiring space”, and this is a pupil led project organised by the Upper Sixth duo of Anna Richardson and Morgan Roberts.

In order to give the project its full support, this year’s Annual Fund will be centred around the plans throughout the current academic year, with the Friends of Rydal Penrhos committee also agreeing to contribute by donating all funds raised from their annual Christmas Ball and Auction.

As part of the campaign, which was officially launched on Wednesday, October 25, the team have researched possible designs, contacted companies for quotes, met with the Senior Leadership Team as well as presenting their plans to Governors at the school.

They have also put together a campaign video in the hope of generating more interest.

Headmaster Simon Smith, said: “The drive and desire to completely renovate our Sixth Form Centre has come from our most senior pupils. They have identified the need to breathe new life into a facility that is principally theirs in which to study and socialise but also in recognition of its wider use by the whole community.

“It is very much my hope that we can bring their vision to life in 2018, before our current Upper Sixth leave, but the pupils have assured me that their wish is as much to leave a new Sixth Form Centre as a legacy for our younger pupils as to benefit themselves from the revitalised space. Such sentiments say much about our pupils.

“Throughout these initial months of my Headship, I have been struck by the support and goodwill of the School community. Whilst the ambition of the project is not for the faint hearted I believe our pupils, young and old, deserve a facility to match their talents and a space to reward their determination.”
