Two aspiring musicians at Rydal Penrhos got the opportunity to learn from some industry leaders at a recent event.
Eddie Farrell and Malina Keil, Year 11 and Lower Sixth Form pupils at the school, participated in a BBC National Orchestra of Wales Side by Side Workshop in collaboration with Bangor University school of Music and the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.
The duo were given the opportunity through Peripatetic Strings Teacher Ms Lorna Todd, and the day involved rehearsing and performing alongside musicians from the orchestra led by Rachel Podger, an internationally renowned baroque violinist.
Taking place at Theatre Bryn Terfel, Pontio in Bangor, the orchestra took part in a series of rehearsals throughout the day, and this was followed by a special performance for family and friends.
Director of Music Pete Williams, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for Eddie and Malina to play as part of a full orchestra and with musicians of such a high standard.
“Both are extremely talented individuals who have shown a great commitment to gaining new experiences which will improve their playing ability a great deal in the months and years to come.
“This would have been invaluable in terms of their overall development and hopefully they got a tremendous amount out of the day.”
