Cricket: Sam, Josh and Owen shine for regional sides

A number of aspiring cricketers have been making their presence felt for their regional sides during another fantastic weekend of action.

The Rydal Penrhos trio were in fantastic form once again to continue their exceptional form throughout the summer as they continue their development away from school ahead of the next academic year in September.

Welsh youth international Josh Massey played a starring role for Menai Bridge Seconds in their eight-wicket home victory over Llay Welfare, with the incoming sports scholar taking his season average to 62 with an unbeaten 56 that included 11 boundaries.

Sam Bixby also played a part in Bridge’s success and was at the crease with Massey at the end, hitting seven not out as the duo sealed the triumph for the loss of two wickets after 17 overs in the middle.

Another that is joining Rydal Penrhos on a sports scholarship in September is Owen Reilly, who continued his encouraging return by aiding Pwllheli to an eye-catching win over North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions Bangor.

The all-rounder took the prized scalp of Sion Evans for 52 during a critical time of the innings during their comfortable seven-wicket success.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “We are thrilled with how our young cricketers are performing for their clubs during the summer months, and they all look to be in fine form which will stand them in very good stead as they prepare for a return to school and our winter nets programme.”
