Ahead of the new cricket season, we will be taking a look at the ones to watch across various year groups as they prepare for a busy series of upcoming fixtures in the coming weeks.
We continue the feature with Year 5 pupil Cieran Milligan:
- Name: Cieran Milligan
- Year group: Year 5
- Pupil status: Prep
- House: Pembroke
Another of our talented young Prep School cricketers, Cieran has achieved a considerable amount in a relatively short space of time, and has already developed into one of the brightest young talents currently learning at Rydal Penrhos.
The Year 5 pupil has benefitted considerably from the school’s winter nets programme and additional coaching during the winter months under the guidance of former Glamorgan Academy member and current Menai Bridge captain Dion Holden.
Cieran is an all-rounder and an impressive fielder who earned selection to the Eryri Cricket Wales (National Development Centre) set-up, and was the youngest member awarded a place on the programme.
The gifted 10-year-old earned his place in the squad after impressing selectors during a series of trials, and he will now begin training during the winter to hone his skills ahead of a busy series of fixtures next summer.
He was put forward for the trials by coaches at Mochdre Cricket Club after he aided their U11 side to another season of fine success alongside fellow pupils Biv Gilmartin, James Gilman and George Watkins.
Cieran is a prominent figure of the club’s youth set-up and is expected to be a key figure in any success that comes their way this summer, ahead of a busy series of fixtures for Mochdre and school sides.
Head of Cricket Mike Leach, said: “Cieran has an enormous amount of potential and is a hard-worker on all areas of his game, which is a great attitude to have at this stage of his development.
“Getting selected to participate in the National Development Centre is a notable achievement for someone so young, and this experience will only enhance his skills as he looks to progress his game in the future.”
