A talented young cricketer at Rydal Penrhos helped his local club achieve a prestigious regional championship victory.
George Watkins, a Year 8 pupil at the school, was part of the Mochdre U15 side that turned in a fabulous effort to secure the North Wales Championship with a fine win over Gwersyllt to conclude what was an outstanding campaign for the group.
The 12-year-old was one of the youngest members of the squad but demonstrated his impressive skill-set to contribute significantly to their overall success, and this is the latest in a long line of milestones throughout the summer for the aspiring star.
He has been involved heavily with Mochdre’s third XI throughout the summer, gaining some fantastic experience at senior level despite his tender age.
George has developed his skills significantly both at the club and as part of Rydal Penrhos’ thriving cricket programme, and he will now take this confidence into the school’s winter nets programme which is led by a specialist team of coaches with a view to improve each attendee through the off-season.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “George has been extremely busy over the summer with Mochdre and it is great to see his hard work and dedication paying off with a well-deserved regional championship for the group.
“We are very encouraged by the progress he is making both as a sportsman and as an academic, which is the cornerstone to all our success here at Rydal Penrhos and hopefully he can continue to progress and build confidence during the winter so that he can make a similar sort of impact next season.”
