Talented cricketers at Rydal Penrhos welcomed three other schools from across the region for a special annual event prior to the summer break.
The school hosted its annual Cricket Tour from July 1-3, which saw Silcoates School, Ratcliffe College and Bolton School take part in a series of competitive fixtures at Rydal Penrhos’ picturesque New Field site and at nearby Colwyn Bay Cricket Club on Penrhyn Avenue in Rhos on Sea.
Recently retired Head of Cricket Mike Leach originally set-up the tour 15 years ago and it proved to be another very worthwhile experience for everyone involved once again.
Rydal Penrhos’ first XI began the event with a narrow three-wicket defeat to Silcoates School, before a number of missed opportunities in the field saw them beaten by Ratcliffe College during fixture two.
The young and improving squad did manage to finish the tour in style with a dramatic victory over Bolton School, which saw Year 7 pupil James Gilman hit the necessary runs off the final ball to secure their triumph.
There were a host of exceptional performances throughout the three-day event from a home side’s perspective, with skipper Owen Reilly demonstrating his talent with both bat and ball throughout.
Lancashire U13 squad member Arran Sen was another to catch the eye to claim 11 wickets from three contests, with the likes of Sam Bixby, Aaron Sherrington, Ben Davies, Jake Palmer-Reid, Fin Hare, George Watkins and Josh Thomas also contributing significantly.
Next year’s tour will see the squad travel to Ratcliffe College for the 2020 competition.
