Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity

For this subject, two or three mandatory units are studied over the course of two years, with assessment being assignment based.

This qualification allows students to sample the wide range of activities and professions that are available in sport; alternatively, they can focus on a specific area, if they prefer. Pupils complete units of work by submitting university-type assignments on a number of compulsory and option units such as Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Coaching, The Physiology of Fitness, Sports Injuries, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, and Sport as a Business, to name but a few.

Pupils can complete an Extended Certificate (broadly equivalent to 1 A Level) across both the Lower and Upper Sixth, or they may choose to tackle the Extended Certificate in the Lower Sixth, followed by a Technical Diploma in the Upper Sixth (broadly equivalent to two A Levels in total).

The course has some flexibility to allow pupils to study either ½ A Level equivalents or 1 ½ A Level equivalents. The grades our pupils have achieved in the subject are outstanding, with 100% of them attaining either Distinction or Distinction* grades (equivalent to A and A* grades) over the last two years.

The course provides a good foundation for academic writing at undergraduate level due to the nature of the assignment writing, topic research and the need continually to meet deadlines.
