A Boys’ Hockey squad at Rydal Penrhos gave a very good account of themselves at a high-profile national event.
The school’s U14 squad travelled to Newtown for the Welsh Schools’ National Championships earlier this month, which saw them compete against other qualifiers from across the country in pursuit of the overall prize.
They began their quest for the crown in impressive fashion, demonstrating their exceptional teamwork to full effect to secure a 2-1 victory over Welshpool High School.
This was followed by a 3-0 reverse at the hands of Christ College Brecon, before rounding off the tournament with a thrilling 4-3 loss to Ysgol Glantaf.
The group secured third spot as a result of their efforts after booking their place at the competition with a convincing victory in the North Wales regional championship event.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our U14 squad performed very well and can consider themselves unfortunate not to have secured a top two finish after performing very well indeed.
“They have developed considerably as the season has progressed and can be enormously proud of the individual contributions, with their work ethic and ability to work together as a cohesive unit another source of great encouragement as they move up an age bracket next season.”
U14 squad: Chay Bonnington, Osca Clark, James Copeland, Jacob Cousins, Callan Earle, Laurence Richardson, Adam McGuigan, Gregor Perry, Niall Richardson, Alexander Starling.
