Boys' Hockey: National Champion U18 side get campaign underway at King's School Chester

Boys’ Hockey stars at Rydal Penrhos will look to emulate their national championship triumph as their season gets underway this week.

After the school recorded a memorable Welsh Schools’ Championship double during the last campaign at U18 and U16 level, the senior squad make the trip to King’s School Chester on Wednesday in their first competitive fixture under the stewardship of Dominic Maguire, who was appointed Head of Hockey in September.

This included a pre-season tour of northern Spain, which saw the group take part in specialist training sessions and friendly matches to hone their skills further ahead of the challenges that lie ahead.

A 32-strong squad has been named for the opener as Mr Maguire looks to get some much-needed minutes into the side following the festive break, with Welsh youth international Josh Thomas and Jacob Heaton-Rue expected to play a huge contributing factor in any success that comes Rydal Penrhos’ way as the season progresses.

The likes of Kevin Farrell, Zach Speakman, Teddy Roberts and Adrian Lewis will all be plying their trade for the U16 and U18 sides this season and possess fantastic ability, and there is also plenty of experience within the squad in the form of Joe Gardener, Fin Hare, Eddie Farrell and Jasper Richardson.

Boys’ Hockey 1st XI squad: Tegid Goodman-Jones, Matthias Fiorita, Kevin Farrell, Miles Poller, Zachary Blomeley, Rafeez Mortuza, Abhishek Bathula, Jacob Heaton-Rue, Nicholas Fiorita, Ethan Morris, Marshall White, Maxwell Robinson, Zach Speakman, Harri Jackson, Jasper Richardson, Teddy Roberts, Harri Jones, Josh Manning, Adrian Lewis, Nicholas Riding, Theo Bryant, Sam Bixby, Jake Palmer-Reid, Mason Clark, Michael Thomas, Ewan Luke, Joe Gardener, Oliver Gibson, George Smith-Edwards, Joshua Thomas, Eddie Farrell, Finlay Hare.
