A group of talented track and field stars at Rydal Penrhos have qualified for the national finals of a high-profile competition.
The Senior and Prep School contingent achieved multiple honours from the North West Regional Athletics Championships, which were held in Manchester last month.
Year 7 pupil Kosi Iwobi turned in a fabulous performance to come away with a notable double in the U13 shot put and discus events, while Laurence Richardson continued his excellent recent form with victory in the U13 high jump event.
The speedy pair of George Watkins and Jonathan Osbourne also booked their place at the national showcase with wins in the U13 100 metres and 200m categories respectively, with Adam McGuigan emerging triumphant from the competitive U14 discus.
Not to be outdone, there were a plethora of qualifiers from the girls’ events at the competition, with the Prep School duo of Ella Northcott and Jasmin Beckett-Donald crossing the line first in the 100m and 200m races thanks to their outstanding performances.
A stamina-sapping 1,500m race in the searing heat saw Eve Durrans secure first place in the U13 category, and Isabella Peevor will also travel to the national finals after winning the U12 discus competition.
Rounding off the successes were the U12 girls’ relay team of Jasmin, Ella, Elise Mazars and Gabriele Subkovaite emerging victorious after demonstrating incredible teamwork in a pressure situation.
Each successful pupil will now begin working with Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated coaching staff to ready themselves for a tilt at national glory in Birmingham later this year.
Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “It was another very pleasing performance from the group, and they can all be extremely proud of their efforts in reaching the national finals.”
