Aspiring Chess players at Rydal Penrhos continued to strive for bragging rights during an ongoing competition.
The Middle School hopefuls took part in the latest round of the Intermediate Inter-House Chess Championships on Wednesday, January 9, where they took on each other in a bid to secure the overall crown and much-needed house points.
Osborn’s Juan Rajagopal has been in outstanding form throughout the competition so far, and he maintained his perfect start with a notable double during the latest session to enhance his chances of victory.
He began with a quick-fire triumph over Payne House member Joe Allen, before making it two from two on the day with a win over Morgan’s Arthur Hind.
Joe and Arthur competed against each other in a thrilling tie that saw both players emerge with a share of the spoils following a draw, with the contest between Payne’s Suhas Shekar and Wesley’s Henry Battersby also ending in a hard-fought stalemate.
Rounding off the games of this particular round was the encounter saw Wesley House member Josh Stewart securing a narrow victory over Osborn’s Phoebe Walker.
The next round of action will take place on Tuesday, January 15 as the standard of play ever increases under the watchful eye of Chess Club leader and Physics teacher Matthew Hubert.
