Two aspiring athletes received a financial boost thanks to a successful grant application from a regional initiative.
Abhishek Bathula and Llion Morris, Year 11 and 7 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, we awarded a grant from the Conwy Excellence Fund late last year, and both attended a special presentation on Wednesday, April 11 marking their achievement.
During the event, the pair also gave presentations to the awarding board members and other successful applicants from the region.
Llion even came up with a special video detailing his journey from young sailor to RYA Welsh Topper squad member, highlighting the significant progress he has made thanks to the sterling work he has been putting in with Rydal Penrhos’ sailing coaches.
He used the money to purchase kit that enabled him to sail throughout the winter both regionally and as part of the national programme.
Abhishek is widely regarded as one of the finest young Table Tennis players anywhere in the country, and he is another that has developed his game considerably in recent months, thanks in no small part to his commitment to the school’s strength and conditioning programme.
He also honed his skills as part of the Wales youth squad that took part in an elite training programme in China, while Rydal Penrhos also bring in a specialist Table Tennis coach on a weekly basis to aide him with his progression.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Both Abhishek and Llion are tremendously dedicated to their respective sports, and both were thoroughly deserving of their awards.
“This further highlights them as two of the most talented young sportsmen in the region, and they have a big future if they continue to show the same application.”
